In May this year we were invited to design and build a play space for the Garlick family as part of ITV’s Love Your Garden programme.
Our vision was to create a play space that would meet the children’s different play needs – active, physical challenge, as well as opportunities for imaginative play and relaxing – with space enough to be in different parts of the garden when playing separately. It was especially important to make the space accessible for Dad, so he could see and interact with the children.
Materials: Robinia posts, larch timber, polyhemp ropes and nets (nets provided by South West Play)

The upper deck allows kids to be pretty high off the ground creating an exciting hide out or viewing tower.
At ground level the teepee is easily accessible and leads to the lower room, big enough to accommodate an adult or several friends.
Dotted around the garden three Robinia totem poles add an imaginative touch and pull the design together visually and conceptually.
The wobbly climbing wall is made out of a recycled coal conveyor belt, echoing the area’s mining heritage.
The design of the tower makes a striking visual impression while complimenting the natural surroundings.
Earth Wrights surprised us with the most amazing play structure. All the kids and adults visiting us stand before it in awe, before racing to have a go. My children love it and are often found relaxing in the cargo net tunnel, whizzing down the slide or hiding out in the little den. We cannot thank you enough for creating this most wonderful space for us all to use and admire.
